On Wednesday, AACRAO released its Guide to Best Practices: Awarding Transfer and Prior Learning Credit. The document describes expectations and best practices for post-secondary institutions' work with transfer students.

The growing complexity of transfer policies and practices have been brought about, in part, by the changing nature of postsecondary education. With increasing frequency, students are pursuing their education in a variety of institutional and extra institutional settings. Fairness, accountability, and the intelligent use of resources require that validated college-level learning be recognized wherever it takes place. The guidelines intend to serve as a reference and starting point for institutions developing or reviewing policies dealing with transfer, acceptance, and award of credit.
