This Compendium of Good Practices has been developed as part of the Study on school learning environments for sustainability in EU Member States, which supports the European Commission’s commitment to helping Member States integrate sustainability into education. The Compendium presents 23 snapshot examples of good practice, as well as material on the design of effective learning spaces for sustainability. These examples relate to both institutional and policy levels. Examples come from primary and secondary education, from within the EU and around the world. They relate to education infrastructure and learning environments that are themselves sustainable, and which support learning for sustainability and the development of sustainability competences, as well as students’ health and well-being. For this study, we define learning spaces for sustainability as spaces, places or buildings that support teaching and learning for sustainability.
