The annual Open Education Global conference is trying something new over 2021 and 2022 by focusing two elements of the entire conference on the UNESCO OER Recommendation. The Open Education Global conference will take place online in September 2021 and in-person in May 2022, and will engage the global open education community in actions associated with all five action areas of the UNESCO OER Recommendation - Capacity Building, Policy, Access, Sustainability, and International Cooperation. We hope you'll join us in this global community effort!



Programme : 

The Open Education Global 2021 conference starts with an Online Conference taking place over five days from Monday September 27 to Friday October 1. Each day will focus on a different UNESCO OER Recommendation action area. Through webinars and interactive sessions, participants will contribute ideas to help with the implementation of the Recommendation.

The online portion of the conference will have presentations and activities from around the world showing the connection of open education to the UNESCO OER Recommendation.

As a global event, the Online Conference is designed for a multilingual and multicultural audience. The call for proposals encourages sessions to be written and delivered in any of the six official languages of United Nations – Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian or Spanish.

The online conference is structured around the five action areas of the UNESCO OER Recommendation.

Day 1: Capacity Building, Monday September 27
Focus: ways global open education community is advancing capacity to create, access, re-use, adapt and redistribute OER

Day 2, Policy, Tuesday September 28
Focus: ways global open education community is developing supportive policy

Day 3, Access, Wednesday September 29
Focus: how global open education community is generating effective, inclusive and equitable access to quality OER

Day 4, Sustainability, Thursday September 30
Focus: engaging the global open education community with nurturing the creation of sustainability models for OER

Day 5, International Cooperation, Friday October 1
Focus: engaging global open education community in international cooperation to advance UNESCO OER Recommendation

Each day webinars and activities will engage the global open education community in collectively advancing the implementation of the Recommendation.

ONLINE CONFERENCE FORMAT

The online conference program will have webinars, interactive activities, and social activities.

Webinars

Each day has webinars comprised of five presentations (selected from call for proposals) focused on the UNESCO OER Recommendation action area of the day. Webinars can be in any of the six languages of UNESCO – Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian or Spanish. Each webinar has a session chair and a rapporteur.

Rapporteurs will produce reports on webinars from the online conference which will serve as inputs to the In-person Congress. These reports will serve as starting points to discussions from which practical recommendations will be proposed and adopted.

Interactive Activities

Each day has interactive asynchronous activities (selected from call for proposals) focused on the action area of the day. Activities can be in any of the six languages of UNESCO – Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian or Spanish. Activities will be short, have a clear purpose and provide an easy means for participants to actively contribute. Activities will emphasize engaging participants in taking action together through such things as analyzing exemplar case studies, discussion, and collectively co-creating different ways of implementing the UNESCO OER Recommendation.
