Media & Learning 2012 is the place to be if you are interested in the latest developments, services and uses of media in education and training. Aimed at both policy makers and practitioners, the purpose of this annual event is to identify policies and initiatives that promote digital and media competence at all levels of education and training as well as to promote best-practice in the take-up and application of media in education and training.

      At this conference we will be discussing:
      - the urgency of embedding digital and media literacy skills amongst the European workforce
      - how best to convince stakeholders about the importance of embedding digital and media skills amongst learning professionals and learners at all levels of education and training

      The conference will include:
      - practical learning opportunities showing how you can apply all types of media in education and training through workshops and hands-on training sessions
      - information sessions describing lots of different initiatives and developments linked to this field supported by European and national programmes
      - sessions linked to the MEDEA Awards 2012, a competition now in its fourth year that recognises and rewards excellence in this field. These sessions will feature winners and finalists from the past and current competitions.


      The conference programme will revolve around three main general themes:

      - Mapping future trends and developments in media-enhanced learning in all sectors
      - Boosting skills and competences in media production, use and re-use of media-enhanced content
      - Tracking the importance of media literacy and wisdom as fundamental building blocks in the creation of innovative, inclusive and future-proof education and training


      Keynotes Speakers

      - Xavier Prats Monné
      Xavier Prats Monné is Deputy Director-General for Education and Culture at the European Commission. He is responsible for the education and training aspects of the Europe 2020 strategy, and represents the EC at the European Institute for Innovation and Technology.

      - Guus Wijngaards
      Guus Wijngaards is Professor on eLearning at the INHOLLAND University of Applied Sciences, and is the author of several books and more than 350 articles on educational, cultural, foreign political and literary subjects.

      - Andrew Keen
      Andrew Keen is an Internet entrepreneur, author and broadcaster. He regularly addresses the impact of digital technologies on 21st century business, education and society as an acclaimed speaker and as an author as with his latest book “DIGITAL VERTIGO: How Today’s Social Revolution Is Dividing, Diminishing and Disorienting Us” which was recently published.

      - Edith K. Ackermann
      Edith K. Ackermann is an Honorary Professor of Psychology, University of Aix-Marseille, France, and Visiting Scientist at the MIT School of Architecture, USA. Some of her current collaborations include the Harvard Graduate School of Design, where she was appointed as a Senior Research Associate; The Exploratorium Science Museum in San Francisco, and The LEGO group in Denmark.

      - Pedro De Bruyckere
      Pedro De Bruyckere is educational scientist at Arteveldehogeschool in Ghent since 2001. He co-wrote 2 books with Bert Smits in which they debunked popular myths on GenY and GenZ, education and pop culture. Pedro is an often asked public speaker, and is an avid blogger.

      - Marci Powell
      Marci Powell is Global Director for Education at Polycom and Chair Emerita and Past President of the United States Distance Learning Association (USDLA). She is an industry expert in the field of educational technology and telecommunications with extensive experience in applications related to lifelong learning and innovation.

      - Brian O'Neill
      Brian O'Neill is a Senior Research Fellow at Dublin Institute of Technology and Head of DIT’s School of Media. He is a member of the Management Group for EU Kids Online, funded under the Safer Internet Programme and leads the work package on policy. He also currently leads an Irish government-funded project called Digital Childhoods researching children use of ICTs and implications for national digital strategy.

      - Anton Bollen
      In his current role as TechSmith’s first European Evangelist, Anton is spearheading TechSmith’s evangelism efforts by engaging users online through various social media channels as well as face to face at barcamps, tradeshows and visits.
